If you were to walk in to any of my classes the past two weeks... Learning was a rough road. The kids, whom I believed to be in, "winter break" mode ... Wanted nothing more than to sit back and watch movies/do nothing.
That of course, wasn't going to happen! I tried to be as creative as I could... Sometimes it was a failure but some things were a hit! ;)
7th Grade - read an adapted version of the "Christmas Carol" and preformed the novella as a readers theatre! We practiced fluency, "acting", learned about drama elements, and interpretation! This took us three days in class! After reading, students had some critical thinking work in an interactive folder. We also watched the Christmas Carol movie & completed a common core movie guide! Needless to say it was a lot of work
6th grade had a blast "interviewing" a holiday character. Students had to self generate questions to ask a holiday character! Then they used those questions to write an "interview" as if that character were really alive. The kids were really engaged and enjoyed the challenge!!
